About this role…
The SMSF Accountant will be working closely with the client to support the business and manage the following tasks:
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare SMSF financial statements, annual returns, and member statements in line with ATO and SIS compliance requirements
- Process fund transactions including contributions, pensions, investments, and expenses using Class Super
- Perform daily/weekly bank and investment reconciliations
- Liaise with external auditors to support annual fund audits, including preparation of audit packs
- Maintain and update member details, beneficiary nominations, and trustee structures
- Track and monitor contribution caps, pension minimums, and transfer balance accounts
- Assist with actuarial certificate requests and lodgement processes
- Monitor compliance events (e.g., residency, segregation breaches) and flag for manager review
- Assist in setting up new SMSFs, rollovers, and fund wind-ups
- Maintain clean, accurate workpaper documentation and version control
- Support broader administrative duties as needed, such as email follow-up, workflow task updates, or data entry for client records
- Complete tasks within agreed deadlines and quality standard
Qualifications / Skills:
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
- Completion or progress toward CA/CPA preferred
- SMSF-specific training or Class Super accreditation (preferred but not essential)
- Minimum 1–2 years of SMSF accounting experience in an Australian context
- Prior experience working with outsourced teams or within a BPO/SMSF service team preferred
- Demonstrated understanding of Australian superannuation and SMSF compliance obligations
- Proficiency in Class Super
- Strong Excel and cloud accounting software skills
- High attention to detail and strong reconciliation ability
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to follow structured workflows, meet deadlines, and self-manage in a remote environment
